Layan Beach on Phuket: Possibly the Very Best Beach on Phuket

Layan Beach sits at the north end of Bang Tao Bay and also includes the beach area in the cove that is created by Kata Island (sometimes Ko Tha) and Klong Kala at the north end of the bay.

A few restaurants are coming into this area, which some consider one of the best beaches on the island.

Relatively undeveloped, the beach front is targeted for a huge complex of villa resorts to be built and managed by Shangi-La Resorts - to open by 2009.

From this area you can walk south to a multitude of beach shack restaurants all up and down Bang Tao Bay.

Check out the small, uninhabited island, Koh Kata.  During low tide you can wade over to it.  Beautiful and completely native, a climb to the top is not easy, but well worth it for the views of the beach and bay.

Sirinath National Park has a reserved area at the end of the beach, and camping is allowed here.  A couple small restaurants have opened in this area too, but they do tend to come and go.

Certain times of year you will find sand dollars here.
